If you are having challenges in paying your mortgage on April 1st, there is some relief. This notice "Governor Gavin Newsom Announces Major Financial Relief Package: 90-Day Mortgage Payment Relief During COVID-19 Crisis" outlines the relief measures like:
90-Day Grace Period for Mortgage Payments
No Negative Credit Impacts Resulting from Relief
Moratorium on Initiating Foreclosure Sales or Evictions
Relief from Fees and Charges
You can also find out how to apply for relief here. This page also had a good FAQ. The most pressing one is:
"How do I get mortgage relief and/or forbearance?
You should contact and work directly with your mortgage servicer to learn about and apply for available relief. Please note that financial institutions and their servicers are experiencing high volumes of inquiries."
We have a few days until the 1st and most mortgages aren't late until the 15th of each month, so you have some time. But don't procrastinate. 3.3 million new unemployed Americans just filed for unemployment benefits.
Be safe,
Dennis
